Michael Hayes, Founder & President

Piloting a vision that goes beyond air transportation. "At the intersection of service and satisfaction"

With the vision and steadfastness of an entrepreneur, Michael Hayes began Crossroads Aviation in 2005 with the intent of building the first, full-service, premier fixed-base operation (FBO) at Anoka County Airport in Blaine, Minnesota. Crossroads, a subsidiary of Anoka Air Charter, which Michael founded in 1993, is the first step in the planned expansion and Michael's vision to provide clients with an elite transportation service that goes beyond air travel.

Michael says, "With the help of CMDC's established financing for the former owners, I was able to construct three hangars, and assume several buildings that make up Crossroads Aviation." Seventeen employees and a fleet of seven airplanes provide clients personalized, professional charter service and freight service to over 14,000 airports within the continental United States and Canada. Crossroads also maintains and manages other companies' airplanes.

Michael's vision is a $4.2 million, "Green" built, LEED-certified FBO with a 9,000 SF public terminal to include such amenities as concierge service, limousine service, a car rental agency, a meeting facility with conference and board rooms, and lounge. In addition, a 22,000 SF climate-controlled hangar will house the fleet of airplanes, fuel service, and maintenance service bays. The facility will utilize environmentally-friendly building products, energy-efficient systems and environmentally-sensitive construction practices. A porous runway and parking surface, natural plants and planned landscaping, passive/active solar energy, and natural light are just a few of the "Green" features.

"My goals are: give the charter operation the ability to expand," says Michael, "provide a facility that our clients can do business in in an atmosphere that is like no other, and give our employees an opportunity for career growth into jet aircraft." In addition, he wants to help propagate a new way of thinking about sustainable business operations. Although air transportation with the King air uses thousands of gallons of fuel, Michael seeks to use less of the environment while on land . In addition to the terminal and hanger, he has recently purchased a fleet of Honda Civic Hybrids that feature fuel economy, low emissions, and utilize alternate energy sources.
